Akhilesh Yadav claims BJP MLAs in UP ready to switch sides, party causing splits
Akhilesh: BJP MLAs in UP ready to switch sides

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is busy engineering splits in other political parties, even as several of its own legislators in Uttar Pradesh are preparing to change sides.

Akhilesh's Accusation

“BJP, which is causing splits in other parties and snatching away their MPs, its own MLAs in Uttar Pradesh are preparing to switch sides,” Akhilesh said at a press conference in Lucknow. He added that many individuals keep their strategies hidden until the opportune moment to reveal them.

The former chief minister’s remarks came in response to a query about ‘Operation Lotus’ in West Bengal and Maharashtra, and speculation that Uttar Pradesh would be next, with the BJP feeling threatened by the Samajwadi Party.

BJP's Tactics

“BJP operates like this only. They have caused splits in many parties. In Uttar Pradesh too they took away many MLAs, MLCs and Rajya Sabha MPs,” Akhilesh stated. He noted that regardless of pressure, allure, or fear, those who succumb to threats will desert their party. To compete with the BJP, a team of bravehearts is necessary, he emphasized, asserting that the SP is prepared to fight the BJP.

SP's Stance

Referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Akhilesh recalled his announcement that he would not induct any BJP turncoats into his party. “SP is a strong party. It has withstood quite a few ups and downs,” he said.

The Samajwadi Party chief’s comments underline the ongoing political tensions in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP and SP are key rivals.
