Akhilesh Yadav Slams BJP Governments Over LPG Cylinder Crisis in Uttar Pradesh
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on Thursday, accusing both the central and state governments of complete failure in addressing what he described as a severe LPG cylinder crisis gripping Uttar Pradesh. Speaking to reporters in Lucknow after meeting with spiritual leader Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, Yadav claimed the situation has become so dire that many residents are being forced to revert to traditional wood-fired stoves for cooking.
Governance Breakdown Alleged Amid Cylinder Shortage
Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the current situation represents a fundamental breakdown of governance in India's most populous state. "For the past few days, it seems as if there is no government in Uttar Pradesh," the former chief minister declared. "Incidents are happening continuously, and there is pressure on the media to suppress the truth about what people are actually facing."
The SP chief drew parallels between the current LPG crisis and previous challenges faced by citizens under BJP rule. "Earlier, people stood in lines during demonetisation, then for LPG cylinders, and even for Aadhaar services," Yadav recalled. "The BJP government has completely failed to address the basic needs of common people."
Market Shifts and Government Evasion
According to Yadav's observations, the LPG shortage has triggered noticeable market shifts as consumers desperately seek alternatives. "There was a sudden rush in the market for electric cooktops as people looked for alternatives to LPG cylinders," he reported from his interactions with constituents and market observers.
The opposition leader accused both levels of government of evading responsibility for the developing crisis. "Both the central and state governments are trying to avoid taking responsibility for this situation," Yadav asserted. He particularly emphasized that the problem extends even to politically significant areas, noting that "even in the home district of the chief minister and the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, people were standing in long queues for LPG cylinders."
Accusations of Misinformation and Official Confusion
In a particularly sharp criticism, Akhilesh Yadav directly accused Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of "spreading misinformation" about LPG cylinder availability across Uttar Pradesh. The SP chief demanded action against officials whose orders, he claimed, have triggered widespread confusion among consumers already struggling with access to cooking fuel.
Yadav challenged the government's official position that rumors alone were responsible for the heavy rush at LPG distribution centers. "If cylinders are available in abundance, then why are people standing in long queues?" he questioned pointedly. "The pictures and videos from across districts make it completely clear what the actual situation really is."
The political leader referenced visual evidence circulating on social media and news platforms showing extensive lines of people waiting to refill their cylinders at distribution centers throughout multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Spiritual Consultation and Future Initiatives
Regarding his meeting with Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, Akhilesh Yadav described it as part of seeking blessings for future political and social initiatives. "I received his blessings," Yadav confirmed. "Before starting any good work or moving forward with new initiatives, it is always auspicious to receive the blessings of saints and spiritual leaders."
The former chief minister added a pointed remark about the broader spiritual landscape, suggesting that "with the blessings of genuine seers like Swami Avimukteshwaranand, the influence of fake saints will come to an end in our society."
The LPG cylinder crisis allegations come amid ongoing political tensions in Uttar Pradesh, where the Samajwadi Party continues to position itself as the primary opposition to the ruling BJP government ahead of future electoral contests.
