Akhilesh Yadav Lambasts BJP's Prayagraj Development Record
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party government on Saturday, asserting that despite an expenditure of Rs 60,000 crore on Prayagraj's development over the past decade, critical issues like the pollution of the River Ganga remain unresolved. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister made these remarks while attending an iftar event organized by industrialist and former Union minister Saleem Iqbal Sherwani in Prayagraj.
Persistent Environmental and Infrastructure Woes
Yadav highlighted several ongoing problems plaguing the city. "Dirty drains continue to flow directly into the Yamuna River, exacerbating water pollution," he stated. He also pointed to severe traffic congestion as a major urban challenge and lamented the lack of accessible and affordable medical care for residents. "The BJP's claims of development ring hollow when basic amenities are still missing," Yadav added, emphasizing the disconnect between government spending and ground realities.
SP's Vision for 2027 and Manifesto Pledges
Exuding confidence in his party's prospects, Yadav declared that if the Samajwadi Party comes to power in the 2027 assembly elections, Prayagraj will witness comprehensive, all-round development. "Every district, including Prayagraj, will receive special attention in our manifesto," he promised, outlining a focused approach to governance. This statement underscores the SP's strategy to address localized issues through tailored policies in the upcoming polls.
Comments on Political Controversies and Judiciary
Addressing the controversy surrounding Swami Avimukteshwaranand, Yadav accused the BJP of employing various tactics to harass political opponents. "They use every trick in the book to target those who oppose them," he remarked. In a related note, he referenced former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's recent court verdict, stating, "Kejriwal has received justice from the court, which was fully expected from our independent judiciary." This comment highlights Yadav's support for judicial processes amid political tensions.
Emphasis on Unity and Hindustaniyat
Following the iftar gathering, Yadav spoke on the importance of communal harmony, stating, "We embrace each other during festivals. This spirit of Hindustaniyat is the biggest identity of our nation, where people have coexisted peacefully for centuries." His remarks aimed to promote social cohesion and celebrate India's diverse cultural fabric, contrasting with the political criticisms earlier in his address.
