The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has scheduled its general body meeting for May 26, during which the city's mayor, deputy mayor, and standing committee chairman will be elected. Among the leading contenders for the mayoral position are Councillors Hitesh Barot from Thaltej ward and Dharamshi Desai from Bodakdev ward. The mayoral post is reserved for a male OBC councillor for a term of two and a half years.
Potential Candidates for Mayor
Other names being considered for the mayor include Jashubhai Thakor from Shahibaug ward, who previously served as chairman of the health and solid waste management committee, and Rajesh Thakor from Vejalpur ward, who was elected for a second term and served as a whip in the AMC.
Standing Committee Chairman and Deputy Mayor
For the standing committee chairman post, Paldi councillor Jainik Vakil is under consideration. Outgoing chairman Devang Dani's name is also being discussed for re-election, along with Ketan Patel (Gota), Paresh Patel (Vastral), and Paresh Lakhani (Nikol). It is anticipated that a woman councillor will be appointed as deputy mayor, with Dr. Chandni Patel from Lambha being a prominent candidate for the role.
