Amritsar: The Akali Dal Waris Punjab De, led by jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, submitted memorandums to the Punjab governor through deputy commissioners across all districts on Wednesday. The party demanded legal action, an independent judicial inquiry, and the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on moral grounds in connection with the controversial video case.
Protests and Effigy Burning
As part of the protests, party members burnt effigies of the state government at various district headquarters. Party spokesperson Shamsher Singh Padhri stated that it has become essential to bring out the complete truth before the public and fix accountability following the Akal Takht's declaration that the video was not tampered with, while Mann claimed it was edited.
Demands for Legal Action
Padhri emphasized that no person, regardless of how high an office they hold, can be considered above the law or beyond investigation. The party demanded that an FIR be registered against Mann under relevant legal provisions and sought an investigation under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
