Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Directs Urgent Action to Secure LPG Supply
In a decisive move to address potential disruptions, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has issued strict instructions for officials to implement immediate, war-footing measures. The goal is to prevent any shortage of cooking gas (LPG) and guarantee an uninterrupted supply across the entire state, even as global uncertainties persist.
Promoting Alternatives to Bridge Supply Gaps
During a high-level review meeting of the Real-Time Governance System (RTGS) on Monday, CM Naidu emphasized the critical need to promote viable alternatives. He specifically highlighted the adoption of induction stoves and the expansion of piped gas connections as key strategies to bridge any supply gaps that may arise.
The Chief Minister stressed that wider use of induction stoves and accelerated development of piped gas infrastructure would deliver multiple benefits. Not only would these measures alleviate supply concerns, but they would also lead to significant cost reductions for consumers and contribute to a notable decrease in environmental pollution.
Fast-Tracking Approvals and Ensuring Transparency
To expedite the process, officials have been directed to fast-track all necessary approvals for piped gas projects, ensuring they are completed within a strict 24-hour timeframe while maintaining full adherence to regulatory norms. CM Naidu pointed out that piped gas is inherently more economical and produces less pollution compared to traditional cylinder-based supply systems.
In a related development, the Chief Minister also reviewed the impact of recent unseasonal rains on the agricultural sector. He has instructed district collectors to complete comprehensive crop damage assessments by March 26 and submit their detailed reports by March 31.
To uphold transparency, the damage estimates must be publicly displayed at all Rythu Seva Kendras between March 27 and March 29. CM Naidu assured farmers of the state government's full support during this challenging period.
Government Reassures Public Amid Global Tensions
Briefing the media, Information & Public Relations and Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasaradhi confirmed that the government has already initiated proactive steps to manage fluctuations in gas availability. These fluctuations are linked to the ongoing war-like situation in the Middle East, which has created global supply chain uncertainties.
The minister reassured citizens that LPG supply within Andhra Pradesh will remain stable and urged people not to panic or worry. He added that awareness campaigns promoting eco-friendly alternatives like induction stoves are being significantly scaled up. Simultaneously, companies are being actively encouraged to boost their production of induction stoves and piped gas systems to meet rising demand.
Leveraging Technology for Farmer Support
Minister Parthasaradhi also highlighted the government's innovative use of technology in agriculture. Advanced AI tools were deployed to send 57 different types of advance alerts to farmers, helping them take preventive measures and minimize losses from the unseasonal rains.
Preliminary assessment reports indicate substantial agricultural damage:
- Approximately 13,000 agriculture farmers and 1,800 horticulture farmers have suffered losses.
- The impact spans 9,981 hectares of crop land and 1,381 hectares of horticulture land.
The state government has pledged to extend full support to all affected farmers. Additionally, efforts are underway to seek assistance from the Central Government to ensure remunerative prices for maize farmers, who are currently facing a price dip due to market oversupply and reduced ethanol procurement.
