Andhra extends 5-day work week for employees for another year

The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the five-day work week system for employees working in the state secretariat, heads of department offices, corporations, and other government institutions for another year. The decision was formalized through an order issued on Tuesday, following a representation submitted by the secretariat employees' association.

The existing facility of the five-day working system was set to expire on June 26. With the new order, the government has extended it by an additional year. According to the directive, employees will continue to work five days a week, with working hours from 10 am to 5.30 pm.

The government clarified that the decision applies to all concerned state government offices and institutions that are already covered under the existing system. Notably, the five-day working system was introduced after the sudden shifting of the capital city from Hyderabad to Amaravati, and it has been in place for the past decade.
