BJP state president K. Annamalai launched a scathing attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, accusing the ruling TVK government of remaining in celebration mode despite the state grappling with two unresolved murder cases. Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Tuesday, Annamalai demanded that the Chief Minister address the law and order situation instead of engaging in political festivities.
Twin Murders Rock Tamil Nadu
The two murders, which occurred in separate incidents in Villupuram and Theni districts, have sparked outrage among the public. In Villupuram, a Dalit youth was hacked to death by an unidentified gang, while in Theni, a woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances. The families of the victims have alleged police inaction and have staged protests demanding justice.
Annamalai said, "The Chief Minister is busy with celebrations and photo opportunities while the state witnesses a spate of crimes. The TVK government has failed to ensure safety for its citizens. The twin murders clearly indicate the deteriorating law and order situation."
BJP Demands Action
The BJP leader urged the state government to immediately constitute special investigation teams to probe the murders and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. He also called for a comprehensive review of the state's crime prevention mechanisms.
Annamalai further alleged that the ruling party's focus on political events has diverted attention from critical governance issues. "The people of Tamil Nadu expect their government to be vigilant and responsive, not indulging in self-praise and festivities while citizens live in fear," he added.
The opposition parties have also criticized the government, with some demanding the Chief Minister's apology. The TVK government, however, has dismissed the allegations, stating that the police are investigating the cases and that law and order is under control.
