Assembly Election Nominations Kick Off Across Tamil Nadu Districts

The formal process for the upcoming state assembly elections began on Monday with the commencement of nomination filings. Candidates from various political parties and independents across Trichy, Karur, and Pudukkottai districts submitted their papers to contest in the polls, marking the start of the electoral season.

Trichy District Sees Active Participation

In Trichy district, the nomination process witnessed significant activity as multiple candidates filed their papers across nine assembly constituencies. A total of 23 candidates, including representatives from recognized political parties, submitted their nominations on the first day.

Prominent among them was DMK principal secretary K N Nehru, who filed his nomination from the Trichy West constituency. The minister submitted an affidavit declaring movable and immovable assets worth Rs 3.12 crore in his name, along with Rs 4.57 crore in assets under his spouse's name. He was accompanied by members of the DMK and other alliance parties from his residence to the RDO office for the filing.

K Bhuvaneshwari of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) also filed her nomination to contest from the same Trichy West constituency, indicating competitive races in the region.

Karur District Records Substantial Filings

In neighboring Karur district, the nomination process saw considerable engagement with 30 nominations filed across four assembly constituencies. Former AIADMK minister M R Vijayabhaskar submitted his nomination for the Karur assembly seat, adding a high-profile candidate to the electoral fray.

Notably, the Kulithalai constituency witnessed nine independent candidates filing their papers, suggesting diverse political participation beyond established party lines.

Pudukkottai District Joins the Process

Meanwhile, in Pudukkottai district, nine candidates filed their nominations on the inaugural day of the process. This demonstrates widespread electoral activity across multiple districts in Tamil Nadu as the election season gains momentum.

The commencement of nominations sets the stage for what promises to be a closely watched assembly election, with candidates now formally entering the political arena across these key districts.
