Badal Criticizes AAP's Rs 1,000 Women Scheme as Vote Purchase

Sukhbir Badal Launches Scathing Attack on AAP's Financial Policies in Punjab

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday delivered a blistering critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, accusing it of financial mismanagement and vote-buying tactics. Speaking at a gathering in Saila Khurd grain market, Badal claimed the AAP administration's decision to provide Rs 1,000 monthly to women was funded through massive borrowing and asset sales rather than sustainable governance.

"Cash for Votes" Allegation Over Women's Scheme

Sukhbir Badal asserted that the AAP government secured a staggering Rs 52,000 crore loan and sold government properties to finance the women's cash transfer program for just a few months. "This is nothing but an attempt to purchase votes by offering temporary cash incentives," he declared, emphasizing what he called the scheme's unsustainable nature.

The SAD leader contrasted this expenditure with what he described as critical funding shortages in essential areas. "The AAP government had no money for old age pensions, the Shagun scheme, or basic infrastructure like roads and sewerage works," Badal stated. He highlighted that over the past four years, the administration allegedly spent Rs 4,400 crore solely on advertisements, questioning the priorities of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's government.

Political Consolidation and Serious Allegations

The event also marked significant political developments, with former MLA Surinder Singh Bhullewal Rathaan and other Hoshiarpur district leaders from SAD (Punar Surjit) formally joining Sukhbir Badal's Shiromani Akali Dal. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami also addressed the gathering, lending religious institutional support to the political rally.

In his speech, Badal made several explosive claims:

  • He predicted the complete political elimination of the Giani Harpreet Singh-led faction, suggesting its leaders were deceived into weakening their "mother party" through central agency manipulation.
  • He leveled corruption allegations against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of amassing 2,500 acres of land in Australia through illicit means.
  • He promised that a future SAD government would implement stringent legislation to combat organized crime, including denying bail to gangsters and drug lords while seizing their properties entirely.

Policy Promises and Governance Vision

Looking ahead, Sukhbir Badal outlined what he described as a comprehensive plan for Punjab's security and development under SAD leadership. "Our next government will eradicate gangsters and the drug mafia from the state through decisive legal measures," he vowed. The proposed legislation would target both the individuals involved in criminal activities and their financial assets, representing what Badal framed as a zero-tolerance approach to lawlessness.

The gathering served as both a critique of current governance and a platform for articulating alternative policies, with Badal positioning SAD as the party capable of restoring fiscal responsibility and public safety to Punjab.
