AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal's Wealth Soars to Rs 222 Crore Ahead of Assam Assembly Elections
Guwahati: In a significant financial disclosure, AIUDF president and renowned perfume magnate Badruddin Ajmal has declared assets exceeding Rs 222 crore in his latest election affidavit. This substantial declaration comes as he prepares to contest the upcoming assembly polls from the newly formed Binnakandi constituency in Hojai district, marking his strategic return to state-level politics after his 2024 Lok Sabha election defeat in Dhubri.
Sharp Rise in Declared Wealth
The affidavit reveals a remarkable increase in Ajmal's declared wealth, which has jumped from Rs 151.71 crore during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to over Rs 222 crore currently. This represents an overall surge of more than Rs 70 crore in just two years, highlighting significant financial growth for the 70-year-old businessman-politician.
Breaking down the asset portfolio, Ajmal's immovable assets have risen substantially to Rs 169.90 crore, up from Rs 123.36 crore declared two years ago. Similarly, his movable assets have shown impressive growth, increasing to Rs 52.43 crore compared to Rs 28.34 crore in 2024.
Detailed Asset Portfolio and Holdings
The comprehensive affidavit provides detailed insights into Ajmal's diverse holdings:
- Real Estate: Four high-value residential properties in Mumbai and Delhi, collectively valued at Rs 57.72 crore at current market rates
- Vehicles: A collection of nine cars
- Security: One licensed pistol
- Business Interests: Extensive holdings across multiple companies spanning real estate, nature care, and aromatics sectors
- Land Holdings: Agricultural and non-agricultural land, along with residential properties spread across Assam, Karnataka, and other states
Family Assets and Financial Liabilities
The affidavit also includes declarations from Ajmal's spouse, Rizwaana Badruddin Ajmal, who has reported movable assets worth Rs 31.08 lakh and immovable assets valued at Rs 6.82 lakh. This comprehensive family wealth declaration provides a complete picture of their financial standing.
Despite the substantial asset growth, the affidavit lists liabilities totaling Rs 4.45 crore, primarily consisting of loans from various financial institutions. This disclosure maintains transparency regarding both assets and financial obligations.
Political Context and Electoral Strategy
Badruddin Ajmal's return to state-level politics represents a strategic move to reclaim political ground following his defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Dhubri constituency, which he held for three consecutive terms from 2009, saw him lose his parliamentary seat, prompting this shift to assembly politics.
The choice of Binnakandi constituency in Hojai district is particularly significant, as it represents a newly carved electoral territory where Ajmal aims to establish his political presence. As the founder of the globally recognized Ajmal Perfumes brand, his business acumen and political experience combine to create a unique profile among Assam's political contenders.
This detailed asset declaration comes at a crucial juncture in Assam's political landscape, providing voters with transparent financial information about one of the state's most prominent political figures as they prepare for the upcoming assembly elections.
