Barjinder Singh Brar Returns to Shiromani Akali Dal in Major Political Move
In a significant political development, Barjinder Singh Brar, the son of former minister Tota Singh, has officially rejoined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The reunion took place on Tuesday at the residence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal in Badal village, Muktsar district. This event marks a pivotal moment for the party's structure in the region.
Homecoming Ceremony Attended by Full District Leadership
The rejoining ceremony was notably attended by the entire Akali Dal leadership from Moga district, underscoring the importance of this move. Barjinder Singh Brar expressed deep relief and repentance over his decision to leave the SAD (Punar Surjit), describing his return as a "ghar vapsi" or homecoming. This emotional reunion highlights the internal dynamics within Punjab's political landscape.
Background of Political Shifts and Allegations
Barjinder Singh Brar had previously resigned from the SAD (Punar Surjit) just three days earlier, on Saturday. During his departure, he leveled serious allegations against party president Giani Harpreet Singh and MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali. He accused them of acting under the directions of Central agencies, claims that both leaders have firmly refuted.
Brar's political journey includes two unsuccessful attempts to contest Assembly elections in 2017 and 2022 as the SAD nominee from the Moga constituency. His return to the main Shiromani Akali Dal is seen as a strategic realignment aimed at consolidating party strength in this key area.
Strengthening Party Position in Moga
Sukhbir Singh Badal, the SAD president, welcomed Brar back into the fold, emphasizing that this homecoming would significantly bolster the party's influence and organizational capacity in Moga district. He stated, "With the return of Barjinder Brar, our party gains renewed strength and unity in Moga, which is crucial for our future electoral successes."
This move is expected to reshape local political equations and enhance SAD's outreach in the region, as Brar brings with him not only his personal following but also the support of the district leadership that accompanied him.
