BALASORE: A road accident involving a pick-up van carrying beer bottles sparked chaos in Odisha's Balasore district on Saturday after locals allegedly rushed to the overturned vehicle and took away cartons of beer before police arrived.

Accident Details

The incident occurred on National Highway-16 near Mirchi Masala Restaurant under the Jaleswar police station limits. According to reports, a car collided with the beer-laden pick-up van, causing it to lose control and overturn on the roadside.

Public Reaction

Soon after the crash, a large crowd gathered at the spot. Eyewitnesses claimed that several people began removing cartons of beer from the vehicle instead of assisting those involved in the accident. Many allegedly left the scene carrying the cartons before authorities reached the area.

Videos and photographs from the site showed beer cartons scattered across the road as people crowded around the overturned vehicle.

Police Response

Police later arrived at the scene and seized the damaged vehicles. The injured driver of the pick-up van was taken to hospital for treatment.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident and are also looking into reports that beer cartons were taken away from the vehicle following the crash.
