In a tragic incident in Bengaluru, seven people lost their lives when a wall of a private hospital collapsed on Tuesday. The accident occurred in the city's Yeshwanthpur area, where a portion of the boundary wall of a hospital fell on a group of pedestrians and vehicles passing by.

Details of the Incident

The wall, which was reportedly under construction, collapsed suddenly around 11 am, trapping several people under the debris. Rescue operations were immediately launched by the local fire brigade and police personnel. Seven bodies were retrieved from the rubble, while several others were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to eyewitnesses, the wall gave way without any warning, causing panic in the area. The deceased included four men, two women, and a child. The injured are undergoing treatment, and their condition is stated to be stable.

Government Response

Karnataka Chief Minister, upon learning of the incident, expressed deep sorrow and announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also directed the district administration to provide all necessary medical assistance to the injured.

The Chief Minister said, "This is a very unfortunate incident. My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. We will ensure that the injured receive the best possible treatment. A thorough investigation will be conducted to fix responsibility."

He also ordered a probe into the incident and instructed the authorities to take strict action against those found negligent. The hospital management has been asked to cooperate with the investigation.

Compensation and Relief

The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased. Additionally, the injured will be given Rs 50,000 each for treatment. The district administration has been directed to expedite the process of disbursing the compensation.

Local authorities have also been asked to conduct a safety audit of all under-construction walls and buildings in the city to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The incident has raised questions about the safety standards in the city, especially regarding construction activities. Residents have demanded strict enforcement of building codes and regular inspections.
