Bhopal Residents Stage Late-Night Protest Over Stray Dog Crisis
In a dramatic display of frustration, residents of Maple Tree Society on Jail Road in Gandhi Nagar, Bhopal, gathered late on Thursday night to protest against the escalating menace of street dogs. The protest, primarily led by women, saw a large assembly at the colony gate, where demonstrators voiced their grievances against the municipal corporation and local dog lovers.
Escalating Incidents and Alleged Inaction
The residents highlighted a severe and persistent problem with stray dogs in their locality. They reported that a significant number of dogs from nearby areas have been entering the colony, leading to a sharp rise in dog-bite incidents. Recently, several elderly individuals and children have been bitten, causing widespread fear and concern among the community.
Despite lodging multiple complaints with the municipal corporation, the residents alleged that no concrete action has been taken. To add to their woes, they claimed that dog lovers have filed false complaints against them at the police station for raising the issue, further angering the community.
Protest Details and Police Intervention
The protestors blocked the society gate and raised slogans, demanding immediate resolution to the stray dog problem. They expressed that the colony has been troubled by these dogs for several months, with attacks on people passing through the area becoming increasingly common. Elderly residents and children were noted as being particularly frightened by the situation.
A police team from Gandhi Nagar, led by SHO Vijendra Marskole, arrived at the scene in response to information about the protest. The officers attempted to pacify the demonstrators through counselling. After discussions, the residents agreed to end their protest, with a plan to submit a formal memorandum to the municipal corporation outlining their demands.
Warnings of Intensified Agitation
Residents issued a stern warning that if the stray dog issue is not resolved promptly, they will launch an intensified agitation. This could include blocking roads in protest, indicating their determination to see tangible action from the authorities.
The protest continued until late into the night, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of the matter for the Maple Tree Society community. The incident highlights broader challenges in urban management and public safety related to stray animals in Bhopal.
