Bhopal Authorities Crack Down on Illegal LPG Cylinder Transport

In a significant enforcement operation, authorities in Bhopal have seized more than 45 LPG cylinders from two separate vehicles and conducted a thorough inspection of a gas agency's storage facility. The crackdown, led by joint teams from the district administration and police, uncovered serious violations of regulations governing the transport and storage of essential commodities.

Seizures from Lal Ghati and Kolar Areas

The operation targeted illegal transportation activities in the Lal Ghati and Kolar areas of Bhopal. A police team intercepted a SUV in the Kolar area that was carrying 25 gas cylinders from Kajlikheda to Hoshangabad Road. The vehicle was found to be transporting the cylinders without valid documentation or authorization papers, prompting immediate seizure of the entire consignment.

Gas Agency Inspection Reveals Stock Discrepancies

Simultaneously, officials from the District Supply Office (DSM) of MP Nagar conducted an inspection at a gas agency's godown located near Jamboree Maidan in the BHEL area. During the inspection, authorities discovered that the actual number of cylinders present in the storage facility did not match the official stock records maintained by the gas agency. This discrepancy raised serious concerns about proper inventory management and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Truck Interception and Additional Seizures

In a coordinated action, a joint team led by SDM Bairagarh Rajkumar Rai intercepted a truck belonging to Mamta Gas Agency. The team seized 21 commercial gas cylinders along with several empty cylinders from the vehicle. According to Rai, the gas agency had been storing these cylinders at an old, disused godown and was transporting them to a private seed company without proper authorization.

Legal Action Under Essential Commodities Act

SDM Rajkumar Rai confirmed to media sources that appropriate legal action would be taken against the owner of Mamta Gas Agency under the provisions of the Essential Commodities (EC) Act. This legislation empowers authorities to regulate the production, supply, and distribution of essential commodities to ensure their availability at fair prices and prevent hoarding or black marketing.

Broader Implications and Enforcement Measures

The seizures highlight ongoing concerns about the illegal transport and storage of LPG cylinders in the region. Authorities emphasized that such operations are part of regular enforcement drives to ensure compliance with safety regulations and prevent the diversion of essential commodities to unauthorized channels. The coordinated efforts between district administration and police departments demonstrate a strengthened approach to monitoring and regulating the distribution of LPG cylinders, which are crucial household and commercial energy sources.

Officials have warned that similar enforcement actions will continue across the district to curb illegal activities related to essential commodities. The public has been advised to report any suspicious transportation or storage of LPG cylinders to the concerned authorities for prompt investigation and action.
