Kolkata: Bidhannagar MLA Sharadwat Mukherjee has called upon the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to evaluate the condition of damaged roads in the township and initiate repair work at the earliest. The MLA also sought information regarding the civic body's preparedness for the monsoon season to avert waterlogging in Salt Lake.
MLA Expresses Concern Over Road Conditions
Mukherjee stated that the roads in Salt Lake are in a dire state, with repair work expected to commence within ten days. “We do not want to see a waterlogged Bidhannagar. The condition of roads is pathetic. The councillors have gone missing. Somebody has to take up responsibility to repair the roads. It is not the MLA’s job to look after road repairs,” Mukherjee remarked.
Identified Stretches for Urgent Repairs
According to the MLA, approximately four to five stretches in Salt Lake have been marked for urgent repairs. “The stretch near Tank 13 is in a bad shape. The matter has been discussed with the BMC commissioner. The commissioner said that work will be taken up within next 10 days,” Mukherjee added.
Residents Voice Their Concerns
Residents have expressed their frustration over the deteriorating road conditions. Supratim Dasgupta, a resident of CK Block, said, “I have almost stopped walking on the road because it is too much of a strain moving along the stretch navigating the potholes. Many will stop driving too unless something is done urgently.”
Santa Chatterjee, a resident of DL Block, highlighted health issues, stating, “The battered condition of roads leads to dust pollution. This has been affecting many like us. I have been suffering from a prolonged spell of dust allergy.”
The MLA's intervention comes as residents demand swift action to address both road repairs and monsoon preparedness to ensure safety and convenience in the area.
