Bihar Govt Approves Rs 30 Crore Police Infrastructure Projects in 3 Districts
Bihar approves Rs 30 crore for police buildings in 3 districts

In a significant move to bolster police infrastructure, the Bihar government has sanctioned a series of new construction projects across three districts. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary made the announcement on Thursday, detailing plans that aim to modernize facilities and improve working conditions for the police force.

Key Projects and Financial Outlay

The approved schemes, with a combined budget of Rs 30 crore, will be implemented in East Champaran, Rohtas, and Lakhisarai districts. Deputy CM Choudhary outlined the specific components of this infrastructure push.

In East Champaran, the plan includes constructing a new office building for the Superintendent of Police. This will be a G+3 structure and will come equipped with necessary furniture and basic infrastructure.

For Rohtas district, the focus is on the police centre in Dehri. A protected office and armoury building will be erected at this location, also inclusive of furniture and essential facilities.

Perhaps the most notable project is slated for Lakhisarai. Here, the government has approved the construction of a 200-bed women's police barrack. This G+2 structure is designed specifically to provide enhanced accommodation facilities for women police personnel stationed at the Lakhisarai police centre.

Government's Vision for a Modern Police Force

While announcing the projects, Samrat Choudhary emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader governmental objective. He stated that the goal is to create a police system that is more empowered, modern, and sensitive to public needs.

"These projects will improve the working environment for our police personnel and provide better accommodation facilities, especially for our women police force," Choudhary said. He further added, "Continuous concrete steps are being taken to make the police system in the state more empowered, modern and sensitive. The government’s objective is to strengthen police infrastructure and provide better security arrangements to the public."

Broader Context of Police Reforms

This latest approval aligns with other recent decisions by the state's home department aimed at upgrading police capabilities and welfare. These include:

  • The approval for establishing a traffic training academy to enhance traffic management skills.
  • The acquisition of 30 acres of land for the permanent establishment of the Gorkha Battalion-cum-additional training centre.
  • Active consideration of constructing residential schools for the children of police personnel at district police centres.

The Rs 30 crore investment underscores the state administration's commitment to addressing infrastructural gaps within the police department. By improving office spaces, securing armoury facilities, and specifically catering to the accommodation needs of women personnel, the government aims to boost morale and operational efficiency. The successful implementation of these projects in East Champaran, Rohtas, and Lakhisarai is expected to serve as a model for future upgrades across Bihar.
