In a decisive move against malpractices, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and Mines and Geology Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, suspended the district mines inspector of Darbhanga on charges of serious irregularities on Friday.
Swift Action Following Showcause Notice
The suspension order came after the official was previously served a showcause notice. Minister Sinha stated that the headquarters took cognizance of the grave irregularities committed by the inspector in departmental matters, leading to the immediate disciplinary action.
Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy, Sinha, who also holds the deputy CM post, issued clear instructions to the Darbhanga District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP). He directed them to ensure stringent action against all individuals involved in illegal sand mining activities.
Clear Message: Punish Culprits, Protect Innocents
"Our message is clear," Sinha asserted. "The process should ensure strict and stringent action against the actual culprits, and also that innocent persons should not be unnecessarily harassed." He issued a stern warning that anyone found indulging in illegal mining or providing protection to the culprits at any level would face severe consequences.
Statewide Awareness Drive on Legal Mining
During a departmental meeting held on the same day, a significant decision was taken to educate the public on legal mining practices. The state will organize special mass awareness camps across Bihar from January 16 to promote the necessity of "K-licensing."
These camps aim to inform citizens, traders, and other stakeholders about the rules and regulations governing legal sand mining, transportation, and storage. The initiative seeks to build public cooperation for transparent and lawful practices.
Minister Sinha also made a public appeal, urging people to report any instances of illegal sand mining, transportation, or storage to the department through its dedicated helpline numbers. He reiterated the department's commitment to curbing illegal activities and promoting sand mining in a transparent manner.
This series of actions signals the Bihar government's intensified crackdown on corruption and unlawful resource extraction within the mining sector.
