Patna: On Thursday, Governor Syed Ata Hasnain and Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary garlanded the statue of Veer Kunwar Singh, the iconic hero of the 1857 revolt, which is widely regarded as India's first war of independence. The ceremony took place at Veer Kunwar Singh Azadi Park in Patna.
The day is commemorated as Vijay Diwas, marking the victory of Veer Kunwar Singh, who successfully liberated Jagdishpur and Ara from British control.
Several prominent leaders paid their respects at the event, including Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, state BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi, former Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, former minister Shrawan Kumar, MLAs Neeraj Kumar Singh and Shyam Rajak, MLCs Sanjay Singh and Kumud Verma, and many others. The giant statue depicts Veer Kunwar Singh mounted on a horse, symbolizing his valor.
Later, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also garlanded another statue of the freedom fighter located on the campus of the State Cooperative Land Development Bank. During this occasion, the national chairman of the Housing Board and MLC Vijay Kumar Singh presented him with a turban and a sword as a mark of respect.
The Information and Public Relations Department organized a cultural program, where artists performed to commemorate the historical significance of the day.
This tribute underscores the enduring legacy of Veer Kunwar Singh, whose leadership and bravery continue to inspire generations. The event was attended by a large number of dignitaries and citizens who gathered to honor the memory of the great warrior.
