Bihar Government Revises Security Protocols for Political Leaders
The Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Samrat, has implemented significant changes to the security arrangements for prominent political figures in the state. On Saturday, the home department issued directives based on the recommendations of the state security committee from April 17, leading to a series of adjustments in security cover levels.
Downgrade for Former Deputy Chief Minister
In a notable move, the security cover of former deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has been downgraded from the high-level Z+ category to the Z category. This decision reflects the government's ongoing review of security protocols following the formation of the new administration on April 15. Reacting to the change, Vijay Kumar Sinha stated that the government makes decisions at its own discretion, indicating acceptance of the adjustment.
Enhanced Security for JD(U) Leaders
Concurrently, the government has provided Z category security to JD(U) leader Nishant Kumar, who is the son of former chief minister Nitish Kumar. Nitish Kumar, who served as Bihar's chief minister for nearly two decades before stepping down in favor of BJP's Samrat on April 14, has been accorded Z+ category security. Additionally, senior JD(U) leader and former minister Shrawan Kumar has been granted Y+ security with an escort, ensuring enhanced protection for key party figures.
Recent Upgrades and Security Details
These revisions come shortly after the security cover of senior JD(U) leaders and deputy chief ministers, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, was upgraded to the Z category on Friday. The Z category security involves the deployment of a total of 22 personnel, including four to six commandos from elite forces such as the National Security Guard (NSG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), or Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). This comprehensive setup aims to provide robust protection for individuals deemed at risk.
Background and Political Context
The security adjustments are part of a broader reassessment initiated after Chief Minister Samrat assumed office. Both Samrat and Vijay Kumar Sinha previously served as deputy chief ministers in Nitish Kumar's cabinet, highlighting the interconnected political dynamics in Bihar. Nitish Kumar, now a Rajya Sabha member, continues to be a significant figure in state politics, warranting the highest level of security. The government's actions underscore its commitment to tailoring security measures based on current assessments and committee recommendations, ensuring the safety of leaders while optimizing resource allocation.
