The Bihar Ex-Servicemen Officers' Association has renewed its demand for a state-level war memorial in Patna. They call it a fitting tribute to soldiers from Bihar who gave their lives for the country.
Veterans Speak Out on Veterans' Day
On Veterans' Day this Wednesday, association president Col (retd) V K Singh made a strong statement. He said Bihar contributes significantly to the armed forces. Yet the state capital lacks a dedicated war memorial like those in other states.
A Memorial for Post-Independence Heroes
Col Singh explained the memorial would honor fallen soldiers from the post-Independence era. It would serve as a reminder of their sacrifices. This would instill pride and patriotism in future generations.
Proposed Location for Visibility
The association suggested building the memorial at a prominent spot. They prefer a location near the museum on Nehru Path along Bailey Road. This would ensure good visibility and integrate the memorial into Patna's cultural landscape.
Patna's Lack of Memorial Called Unfortunate
The association also pointed out an unfortunate fact. Patna represents the aspirations and identity of the entire state. But it does not have a war memorial. This is despite Bihar's major contribution to the armed forces.
Veterans' Day as an Opportunity
Col Singh said observing Veterans' Day provides an appropriate occasion. The state government can announce concrete steps now. They should fulfill the long-standing request for a war memorial. This would ensure Bihar's soldiers get the recognition they deserve at the state level.
The veterans' group continues to push for this project. They believe it is crucial for honoring the state's military heritage.
