Bihar Women's Commission Chairperson Slams MP Pappu Yadav for Defiance and Derogatory Remarks
In a strongly worded response, Apsara, the chairperson of the Bihar State Women's Commission (BSWC), has condemned Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, for his alleged derogatory remarks on women in politics and his open defiance of the Commission's authority.
Commission Takes Suo Motu Cognisance of Viral Video
The BSWC took suo motu cognisance of a viral video in which the MP allegedly made objectionable comments against women entering politics. Following this, the Commission issued a formal notice to Yadav on Tuesday, demanding an explanation within three days.
Instead of complying, Yadav reportedly challenged the BSWC's authority on social media and launched personal attacks on the chairperson. Reacting strongly, Apsara stated she would file a defamation case against Yadav for insulting her and the Commission.
Official Notice and Demands
In an official notice issued on Wednesday, Apsara directed Yadav to appear before the BSWC and submit his statement along with evidence by April 30. She emphasized that his actions have hurt her self-respect and the dignity of the constitutional institution.
Apsara told reporters: "Yadav has challenged the authority of the BSWC. This is highly condemnable and reflects utter disrespect towards a constitutional institution working for the protection and dignity of women."
The notice detailed that Yadav made indecent statements on a private media channel about the BSWC and its chairperson, including displaying her photo with derogatory comments.
Broader Implications for Women in Politics
This incident highlights ongoing challenges faced by women in Indian politics, where derogatory remarks and institutional defiance can undermine efforts to promote gender equality and respect for constitutional bodies.
The BSWC's actions underscore its commitment to upholding women's rights and dignity, setting a precedent for accountability in such cases.
