BJP attacks SP MP Javed Ali over 'poisoned society' remark

Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Javed Ali Khan over his controversial statement that the BJP’s politics has “poisoned” society and turned a section of the majority community “toxic.”

Khan’s Allegations

Speaking during a visit to Moradabad, Khan alleged that the BJP’s political approach has had a lasting negative impact on social relations and communal harmony across the country. In a viral video, he is heard saying, “BJP ke failaye hue zehar ko bahusankhyak samaj nigalta ja raha hai... zehrila ho gaya hai...” (The majority community is swallowing the poison spread by the BJP... they have become toxic).

Khan stressed that the social fabric of India has changed significantly in recent years, with trust among communities weakening and the atmosphere of mutual understanding that once existed gradually eroding.

BJP’s Strong Reaction

The remarks triggered strong reactions from BJP leaders across the board.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh said, “Whether it is Javed Ali or Akhilesh Yadav, their statement that Hindus have become ‘poisonous’ is wrong. Hindus are seen as ‘poisonous’ only by those who have become extremist or are anti-national.” He added that Ali is making such statements with the backing of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, who will face the consequences in the upcoming state elections.

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Anil Rajbhar said that Javed Ali’s remarks do not merely reflect his personal views but represent the mindset of the Samajwadi Party. Another Cabinet Minister, Manoj Pandey, described the statement as reflecting a petty and base mentality. He remarked that India’s majority community has always moved forward by taking all sections of society along and has strengthened the nation’s unity.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma also criticized Javed Ali’s statement, asserting that the SP has consistently engaged in the politics of caste and communalism, whereas Sanatan Dharma advocates for human welfare and inclusivity.

Congress MP’s Take

Congress MP Imran Masood too criticized Khan’s statement, insisting that the “majority” of the people in Hinduism were “sweet” and “lovable.”
