BJP Leader Foresees Major Political Shift in Bihar Within Weeks
A senior BJP leader has indicated that the political landscape of Bihar is poised for a significant transformation in the coming 15 to 20 days, fueling widespread speculation about a potential change in leadership within the NDA government. The remarks, made during the party's 47th foundation day event in Patna, have ignited intense discussions in political circles, with many interpreting them as a hint that the BJP may soon take the reins of power in the state for the first time, despite its long-standing coalition with the JD(U) led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Timing and Speculation Surrounding Leadership Transition
Political sources suggest that any shift in the power structure could be delayed until after Akshaya Tritiya, which falls on April 20 this year. It is believed that Nitish Kumar is expected to take oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10, potentially paving the way for his resignation as the head of the state government, a position he has held since November 2005. Furthermore, insiders indicate that the BJP's chief ministerial candidate might assume office any day after April 14, following the conclusion of the inauspicious period known as 'kharmas'.
Contenders and Social Media Clues
As political observers debate the likely BJP face for the chief minister's post, attention has turned to a recent social media post by Ashish Chauhan, CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE). On April 4, Chauhan shared a photograph with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, accompanied by a message praising Choudhary as a dynamic young leader and expressing eagerness to collaborate for Bihar's development. This has led many to view Choudhary as a leading contender for the state's top position, amid ongoing speculation about the party's internal deliberations.
BJP's Vision and Historical Context
During the weeklong celebrations of the BJP's foundation day at its Patna office, state BJP president Sanjay Saraogi emphasized that Bihar is undergoing a transformation and that the aspirations of its people will soon be realized. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and BJP general secretary (organization) Bhikhu Bhai Dalsania reflected on the party's journey from its origins in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, paying tribute to founders like Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.
Choudhary highlighted the BJP's commitment to fulfilling its promises, expressing optimism about celebrating the party's 4700th foundation day in the future. He attributed the party's growth to the dedication and sacrifices of its members, stating, "Atal Ji took the party to great heights and the country is rapidly becoming developed and self-reliant under the leadership of Modi Ji. Guided by the resolve of 'Antyodaya to Rashtrodaya', this organization is working to deliver development to the very last individual in the country. BJP's journey is not a journey for power, but of values and ideology."
Internal Developments and Future Prospects
Commenting on the appointment of Patna's Nitin Nabin as the BJP national president, Sanjay Saraogi noted that such elevations are unique to the BJP's internal structure. As the political climate heats up, all eyes are on Bihar, with the next few weeks expected to bring clarity on whether the BJP will indeed assume a more dominant role in the state's governance, marking a potential end to Nitish Kumar's era and ushering in a new chapter for the NDA alliance.
