BJP MLA Hiranmoy Chattopadhyay's Marital Status Revealed in Nomination Affidavit
In a surprising disclosure, actor and BJP's Kharagpur Town MLA Hiranmoy Chattopadhyay, popularly known as Hiraan, has described his marital status as "legally married; currently separated" in his nomination affidavit for the upcoming elections. The affidavit lists Anindita Chattopadhyay as his spouse, highlighting a complex personal situation that has drawn public attention.
Background of Marital Dispute and Allegations
Earlier this year, Anindita Chattopadhyay filed a First Information Report (FIR) accusing Hiraan of mental and physical cruelty. The complaint also alleged that he entered into a second marriage without obtaining a divorce from her. This came after photos surfaced showing Hiraan and his associate, Rittika Giri, performing Hindu wedding rituals in Varanasi, sparking controversy and legal scrutiny.
Financial Declarations and Asset Details
Hiraan, who is contesting from Shyampur in the Howrah district this time, has made detailed financial disclosures in his affidavit:
- He declared Rs 15 lakh in cash in hand, while Anindita has Rs 12 lakh.
- His bank and insurance investments total an impressive Rs 5.3 crore.
- He owns a car valued at Rs 4.7 lakh, and Anindita has an SUV worth Rs 5 lakh registered in her name.
- Hiraan's jewellery is valued at Rs 4.7 lakh for 20 grams, whereas Anindita's jewellery is worth Rs 18 lakh.
The combined assets of the couple amount to Rs 14.5 crore, with liabilities standing at Rs 2.3 lakh, indicating a substantial net worth despite the marital separation.
Legal Troubles and Pending Cases
In addition to the marital dispute, Hiraan faces significant legal challenges. He has four pending criminal cases, which include charges of assault and conspiracy. Notably, one of these cases is the complaint filed by Anindita Chattopadhyay herself, adding to the complexity of his legal and personal affairs as he seeks re-election.
