BJP MLA Inspects Salt Lake Market, Flags Unauthorised Structures

Kolkata: Bidhannagar BJP MLA Sharadwat Mukherjee on Thursday conducted an inspection of the BD Block community market in Salt Lake and identified several unauthorised structures being used by vendors for business activities. The MLA plans to continue inspecting more market complexes in Salt Lake over the coming days and will apprise the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities to address the issues and take corrective measures.

Unauthorised Structures and Safety Concerns

"There are several blue-white tin-shed unauthorised structures just outside the market where many are doing business. I have requested them to shift out, taking some days' time," Mukherjee said. He also noted that a community centre was being constructed on the second floor of the market and has asked for work to be halted for now. "It first needs to be seen whether there is a provision for a second floor to set up a community centre there," Mukherjee added.

Electrical Hazards and Misleading Stalls

The MLA pointed out multiple issues, including numerous unauthorised electrical lines and the presence of combustible materials. He observed that prices varied from stall to stall. Some stalls were operating under the name Sufal Bangla, which no longer holds valid government affiliation. "Many are coming from outside, from areas like Bhangar, and conducting business outside the market," the MLA said.
