BJP MP seeks Centre's intervention over Karnataka's SCSP, TSP fund diversion

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Chalavadi Narayanaswamy has sought the intervention of the central government over the alleged diversion of funds from the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) by the Karnataka government. In a letter to the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Narayanaswamy stated that such diversion of funds raises serious legal, constitutional, and ethical concerns. He alleged that the total diversion amounted to Rs 53,059.45 crore across the financial years 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2026-27.

Allegations of Fund Diversion

Narayanaswamy, who represents the Karnataka constituency, highlighted that the funds earmarked for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were being diverted to other purposes. He argued that this violates the constitutional mandate and the directives of the Supreme Court. The MP urged the Centre to take immediate action and ensure that the funds are utilized for their intended beneficiaries.

Government's Response

The Karnataka government has not yet officially responded to the allegations. However, sources within the state administration indicated that the funds were diverted due to unforeseen financial constraints and that steps are being taken to restore the allocations. The BJP has been critical of the Congress-led state government's handling of welfare schemes, accusing it of neglecting the interests of marginalized communities.
