Coimbatore: Senior BJP leaders on Thursday convened a meeting with all 26 party candidates who contested the recent assembly election, along with key BJP leaders, to review and assess the reasons behind the party's rout in the polls. The BJP managed to win only one seat in the election—the Udhagamandalam constituency in the Nilgiris district.
Meeting Objectives
Senior party officials sought to understand the reasons for the defeat, gain insights into ground realities, and formulate corrective measures to strengthen the party's position in future elections. The closed-door meeting focused on identifying weaknesses in campaign strategies, candidate selection, and voter outreach.
Key Statements
Former state BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that those who vowed to combat a certain 'evil force' have, in fact, formed a government in alliance with the elements of that very force. She alleged that Congress members have managed to become ministers through the 'back door'. Soundararajan described the Congress as a party rife with corruption that has failed to implement schemes beneficial to the public. She urged observers to closely scrutinize the actions of the TVK, given their alliance with the Congress.
The meeting underscored the need for the BJP to rebuild its organizational structure and reconnect with voters ahead of upcoming local body elections.
