BJP Launches Scathing Attack on Congress Over Women's Reservation Bill Opposition
In a fiery condemnation, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president N Ramchander Rao has accused the Congress party of demonstrating a fundamentally anti-women stance by voting against the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament on Friday. Rao asserted that this opposition reveals the Congress's deep-seated discomfort with the prospect of ordinary women from diverse backgrounds entering legislative bodies in significant numbers.
Allegations of Feudal Mindset and Family Dominance
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Rao launched a blistering critique of the Congress's political culture. "The Congress party, which originated during the British era and is now led by an Italian-born leader, remains ensnared in a culture of subservience," he declared. "A single family continues to dominate its politics, reflecting a feudal mindset that permeates the entire organization."
Rao elaborated that this mindset suggests only women from the Gandhi family should hold prominent positions, while denying opportunities to ordinary women from humble origins. "Whether it is Chief Minister Revanth Reddy or any other Congress leader, this same regressive mentality runs deep within the party," he added.
Call for Protest and Subsequent House Arrest
In response to the Bill's defeat, the BJP issued a call to lay siege to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's residence in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills area. The planned protest aimed to vocally oppose the Congress party's stance on the legislation.
However, Telangana police intervened on Saturday, placing BJP state president N Ramchander Rao under house arrest to prevent the demonstration from taking place. Authorities successfully foiled attempts by BJP leaders and workers to gather and stage the protest at the CM's residence.
Accusations of Betrayal and Inconsistency
Rao characterized the Congress's actions as a "grave injustice" inflicted upon women across the nation. "The women of this state will never forgive the Congress party for this betrayal," he stated emphatically. He highlighted the party's contradictory position, noting that Congress had supported the Bill in 2023.
"If they have repeatedly claimed they are not against women's reservation, then why did they vote against it now?" Rao questioned. "Their actions have exposed their true intentions: they do not genuinely want women's reservation to become a reality. Their politics is driven not by principle, but by vote-bank calculations and the interests of one family."
Claims of Democratic Suppression in Telangana
The BJP leader further accused the Congress government of suppressing democratic dissent. "Women across the state and youth from our party came out in protest and attempted to lay siege to the CM's residence," Rao explained. "But instead of allowing a democratic protest, I was placed under house arrest. Not only has Congress obstructed women's reservation, it is now also suppressing democratic dissent in Telangana."
The political confrontation underscores the escalating tensions between the BJP and Congress in Telangana, with the Women's Reservation Bill serving as a focal point for broader accusations regarding political culture, democratic rights, and gender representation in Indian politics.
