In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party has taken disciplinary action against three of its leaders in Bihar, including former Union minister Raj Kumar Singh, for engaging in activities deemed detrimental to the party's interests.
Senior Leaders Face Suspension
The BJP leadership confirmed on Saturday, November 15, 2025, that it has suspended former Union minister Raj Kumar Singh from the party following his repeated criticism of the ruling NDA alliance in Bihar. The suspension order was issued directly from the BJP headquarters in the state.
Adding to the severity of the action, Singh has also been served with a show-cause notice demanding an explanation for why he should not be permanently expelled from the party. This development comes amid growing internal rifts within the Bihar unit of the BJP.
Katihar Mayoral Couple Also Suspended
In a parallel action, the party has also suspended MLC Ashok Kumar Agrawal and his wife Usha Agrawal, who serves as the mayor of Katihar. The suspension stems from their open support for their son Saurabh, who contested the Katihar assembly seat on a ticket from the Vikassheel Insan Party.
The couple's political allegiance created a direct conflict as their son was competing against sitting BJP MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishor Prasad. This move represents a clear crackdown on leaders supporting opposition candidates against party nominees.
Background of Raj Kumar Singh's Criticism
Raj Kumar Singh, a bureaucrat-turned-politician who joined the BJP in 2014 shortly after retiring as Union home secretary, has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of certain party leaders. He specifically targeted leaders like Samrat Choudhary, a deputy chief minister of Bihar and former state BJP president, questioning their alleged involvement in criminal cases.
The former minister, who failed to retain his Ara Lok Sabha seat for a third consecutive term in last year's Lok Sabha polls, has also been critical of what he described as the "deal" struck by the state government with the Adani Group for establishing a power plant in Bhagalpur.
These suspensions signal the BJP's firm stance against internal dissent and anti-party activities, particularly in Bihar where political equations remain crucial for the party's national ambitions.
