BJP Leaders Tour Koppal Villages Grappling with Industrial Pollution Crisis
A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conducted a detailed visit to multiple villages within Koppal taluk on Saturday, focusing on areas where residents have raised serious allegations of industrial pollution severely impacting their daily lives and health. The team engaged directly with the local population to gather firsthand accounts and assess the environmental and public health situation on the ground.
Village Tour Reveals Widespread Distress
The BJP representatives toured the villages of Allanagar, Hirebaganal, Kunikeri, and Kunikera Tanda. In these locations, villagers escorted the political leaders to their homes and agricultural lands, vividly describing the hardships they endure due to pollution emanating from nearby factories. Residents consistently reported that dust and emissions from these industrial units have created a dire living environment, with significant consequences for their well-being and livelihoods.
Alarming Health Reports and Political Responses
During interactions, villagers narrated distressing cases of increasing illnesses in the community, including instances of uterine cancer, asthma, and kidney failure, which they attribute directly to the industrial pollution. Assembly opposition chief whip Doddangouda Patil expressed deep concern over the situation, noting that factory dust is reportedly linked to a rise in health problems across the region.
"Reports of children being born with disabilities are particularly alarming," Patil stated. "I will bring this critical issue to the attention of senior party leaders and also raise it forcefully in the assembly to seek a logical and permanent resolution for the affected families."
Former Koppal Lok Sabha candidate Dr. Basavaraj Kyavater described the suffering of the people as deeply distressing. "No individual or community should have to endure such severe hardships. We will raise our voice strongly on your behalf and continue the relentless fight against those responsible for damaging the land, water, and air in this region," he assured the villagers.
Emotional Reactions and Government Criticism
Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Hemalatha Nayak was visibly moved during the visit, reportedly breaking down while listening to the harrowing accounts shared by villagers. Subsequently, she criticized the Siddaramaiah-led state government for allegedly neglecting the pollution issue. Nayak claimed that questions previously raised in the legislature concerning factory dust have not received satisfactory answers or actionable responses from the authorities.

The BJP delegation included prominent local and state figures such as district BJP president Naveen Gulagannanavar, state secretary Sharanu Tallikeri, and functionaries including Mahantesh Patil, Ganesh Horatattnal, Veeresh Sajjan, Prabhugouda, and Pradeep Hitnal, among others.
