BJP candidate Akshita Saini emerged victorious in the Ambala City municipal corporation mayoral election on Wednesday, defeating her nearest rival by a margin of 21,358 votes. Saini secured 52,794 votes, while Congress candidate Kulwinder Kaur Saini polled 31,436 votes. Independent candidate Sonia Chaudhary garnered 21,730 votes, finishing third.
BJP Dominates Ward Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party also performed strongly in the ward elections, winning 16 out of 20 seats. The Congress managed to secure three wards, while one seat went to an independent candidate. The victorious BJP candidates include Vishal Chaudhary (Ward 1), Varkha Rani (Ward 2), Manish Anand (Ward 3), Varinder Nath (Ward 4), Rajesh Mehta (Ward 5), Archana Chhibber (Ward 6), Monica Mal (Ward 7), Shivani Sood (Ward 9), Gurvinder Singh (Ward 10), Kavita Ashu Saini (Ward 11), Kamal Kant Gupta (Ward 12), Shobha Singh (Ward 13), Nikunj (Ward 16), Gurpreet Singh Sahni (Ward 17), Hitesh Jain (Ward 18), and Sapna Rani (Ward 20).
Congress winners include Gurjit Kaur (Ward 8), Poonam Vishu Sharma (Ward 14), and Puneet Kavi (Ward 19). Independent candidate Manoj Sharma won from Ward 15.
Certificates Handed Over
Ambala Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Ajay Singh Tomar, along with Returning Officer-cum-ADC Virat, presented certificates of election to the winning candidates.
Congratulatory Messages
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, former minister Aseem Goel, BJP district president Mandeep Singh Rana, and other party leaders congratulated Akshita Saini on her victory.
Calling the result a reflection of public faith in the BJP government, Akshita stated that her focus would be on development, sanitation, and civic amenities. Former minister Aseem Goel remarked that the victory demonstrates the people's trust in the policies of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. He added, “The CM has a vision to develop Ambala as a metropolitan city and industrial hub, besides addressing flood drainage and beautification.”
