NEW DELHI: In the 2026 Assam assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Naba Kumar Doley won the Dhakuakhana (Scheduled Tribe) constituency with a commanding lead over his nearest rival, Ananda Narah of the Indian National Congress. Doley secured a total of 92,123 votes, defeating Narah by a margin exceeding 50,000 votes.

The BJP-led government is expected to return to power with a comfortable majority, allowing Himanta Biswa Sarma to retain the chief minister's post, according to exit polls from various agencies. Voting for all 126 constituencies took place on April 9, with more than 85% turnout witnessed across both rural and urban regions, reflecting widespread electoral enthusiasm.

Dhakuakhana (ST) is a Scheduled Tribe-reserved assembly constituency located in Assam's Dhemaji district, part of the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha area. The constituency is dominated by rural Mishing tribal communities and is characterized by flood-prone riverine landscapes. Naba Kumar Doley, the current MLA, has a strong track record, having won in 2021, 2016, and earlier as an AGP candidate.
In the 2021 elections, Doley secured 86,382 votes (51% share), defeating INC's Padma Lochan Doley, who received 76,786 votes (45% share), by a margin of 9,596 votes.
