BJP's Reinduction of Limbachiya Sparks Internal Discord in Vadodara
The Bharatiya Janata Party's decision to reinstate former councillor Alpesh Limbachiya has ignited significant internal friction within its Vadodara unit. This move has drawn sharp criticism from former mayor Nilesh Rathod and other prominent party members, highlighting a deepening rift over the party's disciplinary and consultative processes.
Background of the Controversial Suspension
Alpesh Limbachiya was previously suspended from the BJP following a serious legal incident. An offence was registered against him for circulating a letter that allegedly contained defamatory content targeting Nilesh Rathod. The scandal escalated when Rathod's brother filed an official police complaint, asserting that the letter made corruption allegations against Rathod during his tenure as mayor.
A thorough police investigation ensued, leading to Limbachiya's arrest in July 2023. In a related development, two of Limbachiya's relatives were also arrested in connection with the case, underscoring the gravity of the allegations and the legal ramifications involved.
Rathod's Discontent and Lack of Consultation
Nilesh Rathod has openly expressed his discomfort with the party's decision to reinstate Limbachiya. While acknowledging that the party leadership holds the authority to make such decisions, Rathod revealed that he was informed about the potential reinduction approximately a week prior. He emphasized that he had explicitly requested the city unit president to hear his perspective before any final decision was made.
"I had told the city unit president at that time that I should be heard before any such decision is taken," Rathod stated. However, his plea was disregarded, and he was subsequently directed to approach the state leadership, which had unilaterally taken the decision. Rathod clarified that his objection stems from Limbachiya's actions targeting the mayor's office as an institution, rather than personal grievances.
MLA Yogesh Patel Joins the Criticism
Adding to the chorus of dissent, Manjalpur BJP MLA Yogesh Patel has also voiced his concerns. Patel confirmed to media persons that he was not consulted regarding Limbachiya's reinduction, despite both Rathod and Limbachiya being elected from wards within his Assembly constituency. This lack of consultation has raised questions about internal party democracy and the coherence of decision-making processes at the local level.
The situation underscores a broader issue within the BJP's Vadodara unit, where key stakeholders feel marginalized in critical party decisions. As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how the party leadership will address these internal grievances and whether further disciplinary actions or reconciliatory measures will be implemented to restore unity.
