Punjab BJP Leader Calls for Amritsar's Inclusion in City Economic Region Scheme
In a significant move aimed at bolstering economic growth, Punjab BJP general secretary Jagmohan Singh Raju has formally written to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging immediate action to prioritize the inclusion of Amritsar under the City Economic Region (CER) scheme. The letter, dispatched on Wednesday, outlines a comprehensive vision for transforming the city into a powerhouse of development and employment.
Strategic Economic Boost Through Targeted Investments
Raju emphasized that the CER scheme would serve as a catalyst for targeted investments across multiple critical sectors. Specifically, he highlighted the potential for enhanced tourism infrastructure, the establishment of MSME clusters, improved logistics networks, and robust skill development programs. These initiatives, he argued, are essential for creating sustainable job opportunities and fostering long-term economic prosperity in the region.
The BJP leader pointed out that Amritsar's existing strengths make it an ideal candidate for such a scheme. The CER scheme, he suggested, would provide the necessary support and infrastructure to prepare these businesses for international competition and expansion.
"This is a golden opportunity to align local industries with global trade dynamics," Raju stated in his letter, underscoring the urgency of the matter.

Raju also drew attention to Amritsar's rich cultural and religious heritage, which he believes can be a significant driver of economic growth. He mentioned world-renowned sites such as the Golden Temple, Durgiana Temple, and Ram Tirath, which attract millions of visitors annually. By integrating these assets into the CER scheme, Amritsar could be developed into a natural hub for international tourism, thereby boosting the cultural economy and creating ancillary employment opportunities.
The letter concludes with a direct appeal to Chief Minister Mann to take proactive steps.
