Himachal Pradesh BJP president Rajiv Bindal on Tuesday termed the party's resounding victory in the urban local body (ULB) elections as a public referendum against the Congress government in the state.
Bindal's Statement
Addressing a press conference here, Bindal said the results have exposed the Congress government's failures and reflected the people's anger over its 'anti-people' policies. He claimed that the BJP's win in the ULB polls is a clear message that the public has rejected the Congress government's performance.
Election Results
The BJP won 23 of the 26 municipal councils and 3 of the 5 municipal corporations that went to polls. The Congress managed to win only 2 municipal councils, while independents bagged one. The elections were held on Sunday, and counting took place on Tuesday.
Bindal thanked the voters for reposing faith in the BJP and said the party would work hard to fulfill their expectations. He also accused the Congress government of neglecting urban development and failing to provide basic amenities to the people.
Congress Response
Reacting to the results, Congress leaders downplayed the defeat, saying the ULB polls are not a reflection of the party's performance in the state. They attributed the loss to local factors and organizational weaknesses.
However, Bindal maintained that the victory is a significant achievement for the BJP and a strong indictment of the Congress government's rule. He said the party would continue to raise people's issues and hold the government accountable.
