Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation Launches Online Portal for 2026-27 Property Tax Collection
Residents of Salt Lake and Rajarhat Gopalpur in Kolkata can now begin paying their property taxes for the fiscal year 2026-27. The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has officially opened its online payment portal, starting Monday, to facilitate a streamlined and efficient tax collection process.
Penalties for Unpaid 2025-26 Taxes
Taxpayers who have failed to settle their property tax dues for the previous fiscal year, 2025-26, will face financial penalties. According to civic officials, a 10% penalty and an additional 10% interest will be charged on the outstanding arrears. This measure aims to encourage timely payments and ensure municipal revenue collection remains on track.
How to Check and Pay Property Tax Online
To access their tax details, residents must visit the official BMC website and navigate to the property tax section. By entering their unique building assessment number, taxpayers can view the total amount due for both current and previous years. The online portal is designed to provide a user-friendly experience, allowing for secure digital transactions without the need for physical visits to municipal offices.
"Taxpayers can easily check the total amount by inputting their building assessment number in the property tax section on the BMC website," stated a civic official. This system helps in reducing errors and delays associated with manual processing.
Importance of Timely Tax Payments
Property tax is a crucial source of revenue for municipal corporations, funding essential services such as infrastructure maintenance, sanitation, and public utilities. The BMC's initiative to open the online portal early for the 2026-27 fiscal year underscores its commitment to improving civic administration and enhancing convenience for residents.
By leveraging digital platforms, the corporation aims to minimize administrative burdens and promote transparency in tax collection. Residents are advised to complete their payments promptly to avoid penalties and contribute to the development of their localities.
