Body of missing 22-year-old found in Garhwa

Panic gripped Bhoomphor village on Friday after police recovered the body of a 22-year-old man from an isolated spot under the Dhurki police station limits in Garhwa district.

Victim identified

The deceased was identified as Balji Mehta, son of Umesh Mehta, police said.

Sequence of events

According to his parents, Balji Mehta had gone to Wyndhamganj in Uttar Pradesh on April 22 to attend his elder brother’s wedding. When he did not return home, the family began searching for him and also shared his photograph on social media, but no clue was found. On Friday, his body was recovered from an isolated place in the village.

Family's statement

The family said Balji Mehta was mentally unwell. The circumstances leading to his death are yet to be ascertained.

Police response

Janardan Raut, officer-in-charge of Dhurki police station, said, “The matter is under investigation and police are probing it from every angle.”
