Begusarai School Incident: 11-Year-Old Drinks Hidden Liquor, Family in Shock
What started as a typical Monday afternoon in Begusarai quickly escalated into a terrifying crisis for the family of 11-year-old Mohd Shohaib. The young boy, a Class IV student, returned home from school in a disoriented and drunken state after unknowingly consuming liquor from a concealed stash on the school premises. This alarming event unfolded at a government primary school in Shishwa, located under the Bachhwara police station area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Family's Horrifying Discovery
Mohd Shohaib's mother, Rizwana Khatoon, was left stunned when her son staggered through the door, struggling to walk and appearing visibly confused. Alarmed by his deteriorating condition, family members immediately sprang into action, questioning his friends to uncover the cause of his distress. According to his uncle, Mohd Khurshid, the boy had been playing with friends during school hours when the incident occurred.
"As per his friends, while playing in the school campus, they ventured to an abandoned toilet at the back of the premises," Khurshid explained. "Since the area is deserted and overgrown with thick bushes, Shohaib discovered several packed cartons of bottles dumped there. Mistaking the liquid for a soft drink, he gulped down from one of the bottles, but his health began to worsen on the way home."
Medical Response and Police Investigation
The boy was rushed to the local primary health centre in the evening, where doctors kept him under close observation. Fortunately, he recovered after treatment and was discharged later on Monday night. Meanwhile, police recovered 12 cartons of foreign-made liquor from the spot, highlighting the severity of the smuggling operation.
Bachhwara police station SHO Prerendra Kumar confirmed that the gang involved has been identified. "A named FIR has been lodged against three persons in this connection, and raids are underway to arrest them," Kumar stated. Locals expressed outrage, noting that smugglers had exploited easy access from a nearby road to the abandoned section of the campus.
Community Outrage and School Accountability
A villager voiced disgust over the incident, saying, "It is really disgusting to know that smugglers did not spare the school premises for their misdeeds. This raises serious questions about local police functioning." School principal Mohd Mursalin admitted he only learned about criminals using the deserted area after school hours ended on Monday. "We will ensure that the deserted part of the premises is not used by anti-social elements in the future," Mursalin pledged.
This incident underscores critical issues of child safety and law enforcement in Begusarai, prompting calls for stricter vigilance to prevent such occurrences.
