Tragic Accident on Dedicated Freight Corridor Claims Lives of Two Brothers in Sasaram
In a heartbreaking incident early Tuesday morning, two brothers lost their lives after being struck by a train on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) tracks between Bhabua Road and Muthani railway stations. The accident occurred on the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay-Gaya rail section in Sasaram, Bihar.
Dense Fog Blamed for Fatal Mishap
Police officials reported that dense fog in the area significantly reduced visibility, which likely contributed to the tragic accident. The poor weather conditions made it difficult for the victims to notice the approaching high-speed train on the freight corridor.
The deceased have been identified as Prince Kumar (24) and his younger brother Rohit Kumar (22). They were sons of Madan Sah and residents of Barej village in Kaimur district. According to family members, the brothers had left their home early in the morning to visit their agricultural fields.
Daily Crossing Puts Villagers at Risk
The tragedy has highlighted a persistent safety concern in the area. Since Barej village is located on one side of the railway track and agricultural fields on the other, villagers must regularly cross the tracks to reach their farms. This daily crossing has become a dangerous routine for hundreds of farmers in the region.
Rajkumar, the victims' brother, provided a harrowing account of the incident. "The thick fog had significantly reduced visibility in the morning," he explained. "This prevented my brothers from noticing the approaching train. They were struck by the train and died on the spot."
Community Demands Safety Infrastructure
The incident has triggered strong reactions from local residents, who have raised serious concerns about the lack of safe crossing facilities near Barej village. Villagers are now demanding immediate action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Key demands from the community include:

Local farmers emphasized that hundreds of people cross the railway track daily to access their fields, but the absence of proper crossing facilities continues to put lives at risk. Official Response and Investigation
After receiving information about the accident, teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Mohania police quickly reached the spot. The authorities took immediate action to secure the area and begin their investigation.
RPF personnel S K Pandey confirmed that the police took custody of the bodies and completed all necessary legal formalities. The bodies were subsequently sent to Bhabua Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination as part of the standard investigation procedure.
The tragic incident has once again brought attention to railway safety issues in rural areas, particularly where communities must regularly cross tracks to access essential resources. As investigations continue, local authorities face increasing pressure to address the infrastructure gaps that contribute to such accidents.
