BRS Seeks Legal Backing for Congress's Six Guarantees Through Private Member Bill
In a significant political move, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has taken steps to grant legal status to the six guarantees announced by the Congress party. On Monday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao, along with other party MLAs, met with Assembly Speaker G Prasad Kumar in Hyderabad and formally submitted a draft of a private member bill.
Urging Cooperation for Legislative Passage
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, KT Rama Rao emphasized that the bill was introduced on behalf of all sections of Telangana society, including farmers, women, students, government employees, and youth. He called for cooperation from the Congress party in passing the legislation, highlighting that such bipartisan support would demonstrate sincerity towards the people.
KTR pointed to historical precedent, noting that during the tenure of the NTR government in 1986, a private member bill introduced by then BJP MLA Ch Vidyasagar Rao was approved by the administration. This established a tradition of governments in the state endorsing private member bills, he asserted.
Allegations of Deception and Political Strategy
In a sharp critique, KT Rama Rao accused the Congress party of trapping and deceiving four crore people with what he termed "guarantee trickery." He claimed that Congress indiscriminately promised six guarantees, eleven declarations, and 420 assurances solely to secure votes during elections, without a clear plan for implementation.
The BRS's initiative aims to hold the Congress accountable by legally binding these promises, ensuring they are not merely electoral rhetoric but enforceable commitments. The party has urged the Speaker to facilitate the passage of this private member bill, framing it as a measure for public welfare and transparency in governance.
This development marks a strategic escalation in Telangana's political landscape, as opposition parties leverage legislative tools to challenge ruling party promises and advocate for statutory backing of populist assurances.
