Calcutta High Court Grants Legal Relief to BJP's Adhikari Brothers
In a significant development on Monday, the Calcutta High Court provided crucial legal relief to two prominent BJP candidates and brothers, Suvendu Adhikari and Dibyendu Adhikari, in two separate cases. The rulings come as the political landscape in West Bengal intensifies ahead of upcoming elections.
Interim Protection Granted to Suvendu Adhikari
Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee of the Calcutta High Court granted interim protection to Suvendu Adhikari for a period of 12 weeks. This relief is in connection with a First Information Report (FIR) filed against him over allegations of making objectionable remarks. Suvendu Adhikari, who is contesting from both Nandigram and Bhowanipore constituencies, now has temporary legal shielding as the case proceeds.
No-Due Certificate Issued to Dibyendu Adhikari
In a parallel case, Suvendu's brother, Dibyendu Adhikari, who is fielded from the Egra constituency, received his no-due certificate from the court. Dibyendu had moved the bench of Justice Krishna Rao on March 10, stating that despite vacating government property, he had not been issued the certificate. The state government informed the court that the certificate had been issued on March 19 and was in transit, resolving the matter.
Brothers' Political Significance
The Adhikari brothers are key figures in the BJP's strategy in West Bengal, with their candidacies in multiple constituencies drawing significant attention. This legal relief could potentially bolster their campaigns by alleviating immediate legal pressures.
Key Points:
- Suvendu Adhikari receives 12-week interim protection in an FIR case.
- Dibyendu Adhikari obtains no-due certificate after state confirmation.
- Both rulings delivered by Calcutta High Court on Monday.
- Brothers are BJP candidates in Nandigram, Bhowanipore, and Egra.
The court's decisions highlight the ongoing legal and political dynamics in the region, with the Adhikari brothers navigating both electoral and judicial arenas simultaneously.
