A political storm erupted in the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation's general body meeting on Thursday after corporator and Mahanagar Aghadi group leader Pappu alias Pradeep Deshmukh sought the removal of Mayor Sangeeta Khandekar. He accused her of serious dereliction of duty and deliberate violation of statutory municipal rules.
Written Memorandum Submitted
Deshmukh submitted a detailed written memorandum to the state's urban development department through Municipal Commissioner Aknuri Naresh. In the memorandum, he alleged that the mayor intentionally failed to convene mandatory general body meetings for nearly three months after the civic elections. This delay, he claimed, was to postpone the appointment of nominated members.
Allegations of Rule Violation
The corporator accused the mayor of deliberately violating municipal rules by not holding the required meetings. According to Deshmukh, such actions undermine the democratic functioning of the corporation and hinder the development work in the city.
The mayor's office has not yet responded to the allegations. The urban development department is expected to review the memorandum and take appropriate action.
