A village trip back from a joyous naming ceremony turned into a devastating tragedy in Chhattisgarh's Balod district on Sunday night. A pickup vehicle carrying women and children overturned, resulting in the deaths of two women and serious injuries to 18 other passengers, according to police reports.

The accident occurred near Bhanwarmara village in the Mangchuwa region as the victims were returning to Paddetola village after attending a chhathi (naming) function. Police stated that the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle at a sharp bend, causing it to overturn by the roadside in a catastrophic manner.
The deceased have been identified as:
- Manbai, approximately 65 years old, who died at the accident scene
- Nandani Bai Kadiyam, 40 years old, who succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a hospital
Rescue Operation and Medical Response
Officials confirmed that a total of 20 people were traveling in the pickup vehicle at the time of the accident. In addition to the two fatalities, 18 others sustained serious injuries, including the driver, several women, and two children.
Immediately following the crash, local residents and police personnel launched an extensive rescue operation. They worked diligently to extract the injured from the overturned vehicle. All victims were first taken to the community health centre at Dondi Lohara for primary medical treatment.
