In the upcoming civic body elections across six towns in Ludhiana district, a total of 2,09,000 voters are set to determine the fate of 452 candidates. The polling is scheduled for February 18, with results to be announced on February 20.
Polling Details
The elections cover municipal corporations and councils in Ludhiana, Khanna, Jagraon, Samrala, Raikot, and Mullanpur Dakha. Among these, Ludhiana city has the highest number of voters at 1.2 lakh, followed by Khanna with 45,000 voters.
Candidate Breakdown
Of the 452 candidates, 198 are contesting for municipal corporation seats, while 254 are vying for council positions. Major parties have fielded candidates in most wards, with independents also in the fray.
The election commission has set up 250 polling stations across the six towns, with adequate security arrangements. Voters are urged to carry their voter ID cards for identification.
This election is seen as a crucial test for local governance, with issues like sanitation, water supply, and infrastructure development taking center stage in campaign rhetoric.
