Siliguri: In a significant political gesture, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari reached out to veteran Left Front leader and former minister Ashok Bhattacharya, who is currently hospitalized after sustaining a head injury from a fall at his home. On Sunday, Minister Shankar Ghosh, acting on the directive of Chief Minister Adhikari, visited Bhattacharya at the Matigara medical facility to inquire about his treatment and well-being.
CM's Direct Involvement
Chief Minister Adhikari personally spoke to Bhattacharya over the phone, asking about his health condition. During the conversation, Bhattacharya reciprocated the concern by inquiring about the health of Adhikari's father, Sisir Adhikari. The two leaders also discussed the Chief Minister's proposed visit to north Bengal, scheduled for June 16 and 17.
Political Significance
The interaction between the ruling party chief and the veteran Left leader is being seen as a rare moment of cross-party camaraderie in the state's often polarized political landscape. Bhattacharya, a seasoned politician, has been a prominent figure in West Bengal's Left movement for decades. His hospitalization has drawn attention from various political quarters.
