Chief Minister Conrad Sangma Kickstarts Tura's Transformation

In a significant push for urban development, Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad Sangma personally distributed financial cheques across 60 localities in Tura on Friday. This initiative is a core component of the ambitious Tura beautification project, aimed at revitalizing the town.

Building a Cleaner and Greener Tura

Addressing a gathering organized by the Tura Municipal Board, CM Sangma highlighted the collaborative spirit driving this change. He stated that the state government, district administration, municipality, and local communities are united by a common objective to transform Tura into a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful town.

To incentivize excellence in cleanliness, the top three performing localities were rewarded with Rs one lakh each. The remaining localities each received a substantial sum of Rs 70,000 to fund their local beautification and cleanliness drives.

Beyond aesthetics, the Chief Minister outlined concrete infrastructural upgrades. He confirmed that projects to enhance water supply in Tura, along with the installation and management of street lights and CCTVs, are currently being implemented to improve public safety and civic amenities.

Green Mobility and Community Initiatives

With an eye on the future, Conrad Sangma placed strong emphasis on revolutionizing public transportation. He proposed a visionary plan to introduce electrical autos before the 2027 National Games.

"I am very keen on making public transportation green before the National Games in 2027. I shall soon speak to the auto association for exchanging the existing autos for electrical ones," the CM announced, signaling a major shift towards sustainable urban mobility.

Further enriching the town's social fabric, Sangma stressed the need for children's parks and green spaces for senior citizens. He also made a fervent appeal to Tura's residents to actively participate in the 'Paint My City Campaign' to add color and vibrancy to their neighborhoods.

A Christmas Gift for 70,000 Tribal Students

In a separate but equally impactful announcement, Chief Minister Sangma delivered on a major promise concerning education. He declared that the government will release the second and final instalment of post-matric scholarships on Saturday, framing it as a special 'Christmas gift' for the beneficiaries.

Fulfilling his commitment, a total of 70,000 tribal students are set to receive these scholarships. The disbursement, amounting to a massive Rs 130 crore, will be transferred to students' accounts before Christmas, providing significant financial relief and support for their education.

"Tomorrow (Saturday), I will be releasing the second instalment... After that, it will take two to maximum three working days for it to reflect in the students’ accounts. As promised to all of you, this year I will take special care and ensure that your scholarship is released before Christmas," the CM affirmed via his social media handle.
