Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Unveils Prestigious Vikramaditya Awards in Ujjain

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made a significant announcement on Sunday during the inauguration of Vikramotsav 2026 in Ujjain, revealing plans to establish multiple awards honoring the legacy of the legendary ruler Vikramaditya. The centerpiece of this initiative is the Emperor Vikramaditya International Award, which carries a substantial prize of Rs 1.01 crore.

Three-Tier Award Structure Announced

The newly announced awards will operate on three distinct levels:

  • International Award: Rs 1.01 crore prize for dignitaries who have made groundbreaking inventions contributing to world peace, defense, and human development
  • National Award: Rs 21 lakh prize for achievements in similar fields at the national level
  • State Awards: Three awards of Rs 5 lakh each for contributions to Indian art, culture, tradition, and other fields reminiscent of Vikramaditya's 'nine gems'

CM Yadav described the international award as "the country's most prestigious award" that will "elevate India's cultural glory to new heights on the world stage."

Cultural Significance and Selection Criteria

According to Shriram Tiwari, director of the Vikramaditya Research Chair and cultural advisor to the CM, the awards will recognize exceptional contributions across multiple domains. The international award specifically targets innovations that advance global peace and human progress, while the state-level awards honor those preserving and enhancing India's rich cultural heritage.

"The awards are designed to celebrate excellence in the spirit of Vikramaditya's legendary court," explained Tiwari, referencing the historical ruler's renowned patronage of scholars and artists.

Ujjain's Growing Prominence

During his address, CM Yadav highlighted Ujjain's current phase of robust growth across multiple sectors. The city is experiencing increased commercial activity and rising religious tourism, particularly at the Mahakal Jyotirlinga temple.

"Across the country, Mahakal Jyotirlinga is the only place where devotees can have darshan in less than half an hour and return joyfully," Yadav noted while inaugurating the third edition of the Vikram Trade Fair.

Vikramotsav 2026: A Celebration of Cultural Identity

The announcement came during the inauguration of Vikramotsav 2026, a multifaceted festival that includes:

  1. Exhibitions showcasing regional and national achievements
  2. Cultural programs highlighting traditional arts
  3. Musical evenings featuring classical and contemporary performances
  4. The Vikram Trade Fair promoting business and commerce

Yadav emphasized that "Vikramotsav is not merely a celebration, but a grand festival of cultural identity and historical pride," reflecting the deeper significance of the event beyond its ceremonial aspects.

The establishment of these awards represents a significant investment in recognizing excellence while promoting India's cultural heritage on both national and international platforms. The substantial prize amounts, particularly the Rs 1.01 crore international award, position these honors among the most prestigious recognitions in the country for contributions to peace, development, and cultural preservation.
