Meghalaya Chief Minister Lays Foundation for Transformative Community Hub in Tura
In a significant development for West Garo Hills, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma unveiled the foundation stone plaque for a new multi-facility building at Dakopgre in Tura on Saturday. The ceremony marked the commencement of a project that has been described as a "long-cherished aspiration" of the local population, addressing community needs through enhanced infrastructure.
CM Sangma Highlights Team Efforts and Progress in Tura
Speaking at the event, Conrad Sangma, who also serves as the local MLA, emphasized the collaborative efforts behind the state's development. "In the past eight years, I, together with my colleagues and officers, have worked as a team to bring transformative changes in the state," he stated. The Chief Minister expressed encouragement at the visible progress in Tura town, underscoring the government's commitment to regional advancement.
Funding and Vision for the Multi-Purpose Facility
The project has been sanctioned with a budget of Rs 52 lakh, with funding equally shared between the chief minister's special development fund and the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority. This financial backing ensures robust support for the initiative, aimed at creating a versatile community space.
Conrad Sangma outlined a comprehensive vision for the facility, suggesting it be utilized as a multi-purpose community hub. The proposed uses include:
- Skill development programmes to enhance employability
- Youth clubs and indoor games for recreational activities
- Music and activity spaces to foster creativity
- Coaching and study centers for educational support
"There should be spaces for all these activities so that the youth can benefit meaningfully," the Chief Minister remarked, highlighting the focus on empowering younger generations.
Inclusive Programmes for Women and Community Engagement
Beyond youth-centric initiatives, Conrad Sangma stressed the importance of organizing programmes specifically for women. These are set to include training in areas such as:
- Tailoring to develop vocational skills
- Handicrafts to promote traditional arts
- Food processing to support local entrepreneurship
This inclusive approach aims to bolster community engagement and economic opportunities across demographics, ensuring the hub serves as a catalyst for holistic development in Tura.
